Equal Opportunity Centre Creation and Objectives:

  • Equal Opportunity centre was created by a mandate of the UGC specifying the need of a functionary within the college set up which would facilitate affirmative action in order to ensure equal opportunity for all within its folds.
  • The objectives of the centre are: to create an atmosphere of Equal Opportunity through awareness generation programmes, to provide auxiliary support towards skill development and enhancing employability of students, and to tailor development and sensitization programmes to meet the distinct needs of the students.

  • In 2013, under the initiative of Women’s cell 11 students of the college were selected to participate in the state-level slogan writing competition based on the theme “Save the Girl Child”, conducted by Women Development and Social Welfare Department, Government of West Bengal.
  • On 02. 01. 2013, The Women’s cell organised a silent rally in the town with the students, teachers and the non-teaching staff as a protest against the brutal rape case in Delhi.
  • In December 2013, Equal Opportunity Centre (Women’s Cell) organised a one day programme involving interaction between the students with the members of Self-Help-Groups of the Hooghly district. 22 students and 3 teacher members of Women’s Cell took part in this programme.
  • On 8th March 2015, on the occasion of International Women’s Day, under the supervision of Women’s Cell, students of the college staged a drama titled ‘Bayen’, written by renowned author Mahasweta Devi.
  • On 8th September, 2015, Equal Opportunity Centre in collaboration with Women’s Police Station of Chinsurah, arranged a discussion on Human Trafficking, Eve Teasing, Child Marriage and Domestic Violence Act.
  • On 8th March 2016, on the occasion of International Women’s Day, Women’s Cell had arranged an open forum of the students, teachers and non-teaching staff to share their views on position of women in society and the need for their empowerment.
  •  On 1st August 2016, the Equal Opportunity Centre published a book edited by Prof. Subhendu Bikas Adhikari, named ‘Nari O Anyanya Prantebasi’, with ISBN No. 978-81-929475-9-4.
  • On 19th August 2016, a Students’ Awareness Programme on Women’s Health was organised by the Women’s Cell in collaboration with the Sun Pharma. Dr. Sumitra Roy Chowdhury, a renowned Gynaecologist was the resource person in this programme.
